Gmail Peeper is simple desktop program that tells you when you get new mail in your Gmail account.
The software layout is basic and a bit plain-looking, but quite useful. Just input your Gmail username and password into the first two spots in the settings tab, and Gmail Peeper quickly goes to work. You can also opt to load Gmail Peeper when you start up your PC and have the program automatically check for updates. Setting the number of minutes between email checks is an option that is left entirely up to you as well.
Gmail Peeper uses an RSS feed to pull up a list of each email's title in your Gmail inbox, as well as the name of the person or organization who sent it. In addition, the program hides at the bottom of your computer screen when not in use and gives you updates from there via a small but noticeable pop-up.
It is unclear whether or not it also lists email that has automatically been sent to your junk mail folder, which could prove problematic if you want to have notice when every email arrives in your account. Gmail Peeper is also of limited use to people who actually want to check the content of the emails they receive. For that, you'll need to open up a web browser or email client and check it just like you would without using Gmail Peeper.
Still, if you don't want to keep Gmail open, Gmail Peeper notifies you immediately of new mail.
